Andrew Eales

Andrew Eales is a photographer who is primarily under the water while holding his breath. In 2015 he opened a freediving & spearfishing shop here in Marathon - Formula Freediving. Using an underwater camera setup with a wide lens, he tries get very close to subjects capturing not only the subject but also part of the mesmerizing underwater backdrop. This requires convincing marine life that you are a natural part of their world. All of his work uses natural lighting and is primarily printed on metal which offers a very smooth and fluid appearance. His photos are shot in a "raw" format and carefully edited to help bring back the natural aquatic colors that are lost as light passes through water.
