About Marilyn

marlin.png

Marilyn Callahan has been capturing the Florida Keys in her art since moving to Islamorada in 1974. As the co-owner and artist-in-residence of three Upper Keys’art shops from 1974-80, Marilyn produced original paintings, batiks, prints, drawings, soft sculptures and textile designs that explored her fascination with the islands’ natural beauty.

In the 1980’s and 90’s, Marilyn was commissioned by designers, gallery owners, restauranteurs and collectors to produce murals, large batiks, pastels and tropical stencil designs.

In recent years, Marilyn has focused on painting with oils and acrylics, which she feels are the most direct form of expressing her love of the Keys. Besides producing her own artwork, Marilyn was the art teacher Key Largo School for 25 years, and was named Monroe County Teacher of the Year in 1995.
