About Sandy
My family and I traveled to the FL Keys on vacation in 1985, and fell in love with the warmth and beauty of its surroundings. Over the years we have spent more and more time here. Now that I am retired, my husband and I live on Cudjoe Key seven months out of the year and return to our home on the coast of NH to visit with friends and family during the summer.
I’ve been painting on and off for over 25 years, taking many art classes along the way, always wanting to learn how to improve my painting skills. I started out with water colors, but have found acrylics more forgiving and easier to work with. My favorite subject matter is nature; landscapes, botanicals, and wildlife.
Several years ago, I saw a painted scuba tank that could be hung as a decoration. I was intrigued with its uniqueness. After a lot of trial and error, I now create beautiful bells made from repurposed scuba tanks. They sound like a ship’s bell when completed. They work as door bells for stilt houses or even dinner bells. Several of my customers say they work great for calling their significant others back home. One of my bells now hangs in the botanical garden at West Martello Tower in Key West.
This is my second year of selling my artwork at Shady Palms Art Gallery & Frame Shop. In addition to my scuba tank bells, I have many paintings on canvas. I am honored to be among the many talented artists here in the FL Keys.
