Alice Pruitt
Alice was born and raised in the New Orleans area where she grew to love and appreciate the unique architecture of southern Louisiana. After moving to Athens, Georgia and graduating from UGA with a degree in Art Education she taught art for many years in public and private schools. After raising her children and leaving the field of education she began focusing on creating her own art which included drawings and paintings of a wide variety of subjects such as southern architecture, landscapes, and pets. Her careful attention to detail can be seen in her work, especially in the architectural renderings and pet portraits. After visiting friends in Marathon, Alice and her family began vacationing there and eventually built a house in which they resided part time. She quickly became fascinated with the local color and marine life and added more subject matter to her paintings. The majority of her work comes from photos taken by herself and family members. Her work can be found in the UGA Center for Continuing Education, Athens bus shelters, the Athens Area Sketchbook and local cookbooks, and the movie “Father Figure”. Her painting ”Cruickshank Lane” which is from her photo taken on Cudjoe Key (MM 21.5), was featured on a billboard in the Athens area and the cover of Keys Culture magazine.
